Not so long ago, Samsung announced their ultimate gaming monitor called the Samsung Odyssey G9. This gaming monitor is insane in many ways. Be its super huge display or its curvature, it is outstanding from the rest of the monitors and that makes it more special. It is a featured pack monitor and some of its features are seen very less often in the standard monitor. All this comes with a hefty price. Samsung Odyssey G9 Review: Top Specifications

Resolution: 5120 x 1440 | Size: 49 inch | Backlight Type: LED | Panel Type: VA | Max Refresh Rate: 240 Hz | Response time: 1ms | Aspect Ratio: 32:9 | Curvature: 1000R

Additional Features:

Flicker-free technology | Screen Size Optimizer | Refresh Rate Optimizer | Wall Mount (100x100mm) | Picture-in-Picture | Eye Saver Mode | Super Arena Gaming UX | G-SYNC / FreeSync compatible (Range:60 to 240 Hz) | Black Equalizer | Low Input Lag Mode | Infinity Core Lighting

This gaming monitor outperforms most of its competitors because of its super-low response time of 1 ms and crazy fast refresh rate of 240 Hz. Gaming feels buttery smooth with no stutter or lag of any sort. Moreover, no signs of ghosting are seen, all thanks to its super low pixel response time considering the fact it is a VA panel. This means pixel transitions are rapid and thus less visible image artifacts.

The most recent games like Forza Horizon 4 and Battlefield V feel very smooth and immersive with about 100 fps at max graphics settings. It also packs adaptive sync technology like Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium meaning the monitor’s refresh rate is in sync with GPU. Therefore, it improves overall game performance by eliminating or minimizing screen tearing, display stutter, and input lag.

Picture Quality:

The VA panel with Samsung’s QLED technology successfully delivers very impressive color accuracy and an amazing static contrast ratio of 2500:1. This gigantic monitor has a 49-inch screen with 5120 x 1440 resolution. Also, the monitor supports 88% NTSC 1976, 125% sRGB, and 92% Adobe RGB color profile coverage which is capable of producing about 1.07 billion colors. This translates to two 27 inch monitors side by side and god, it is super wide. Compared to the conventional curvature of 1800R it has a more curved screen with 1000R. As a result, the overall viewing experience is truly immersive, and also viewing angles are much better. If you work with multiple screens at a time, is sufficiently wide to replace a multi-monitor setup.

Furthermore, the monitor is VESA Certified HDR1000. Due to this, colors are even more vibrant, and contrast is more prominent than normal HDR. If you are video game enthusiasts willing to enjoy your favorite games to the fullest than DisplayHDR 1000 is the most affluent choice. 1000 in HDR1000 represents the peak brightness of 1000 nits. Even if you are using your monitor under direct light from windows or so you should be fine.

samsung odysssey g9 - back

It is an extraordinary looking, sleek designed gaming monitor. Although the bezels are not so attractive, you will like the white glossy back with accent line around the corners and middle of the monitor. Another dope design statement is its half a foot circle at the back of the monitor in the center. It illuminates with a variety of RGB lights which can also reflect on the back of the wall if the monitor is close enough and can create a pretty cool lighting effect. The stand is very sturdy and provides a solid base for this huge monitor. The movement of the stand is capable of -3.0° ~ +13.0° of tilt, -15.0°  ~ +15.0° swivel, and 120.0 mm (4.72 inches) height adjustments.

Furthermore, the 1000R curvature is easier for the human eye than the standard 1800R and the curve looks amazing on this 49 inches.  The cables management is good. There is a dedicated slot in the stand so that you can route all your cables thought it. There is also a headphone holder at the back which is not so easy to reach and hence in my opinion is not very practical. You can expect a little wobble in the monitor but it is fine and kind of normal for this huge ultrawide monitor.

samsung odysssey g9 ports

The monitor packs standard ports at the back of the monitor. On the left side, at the back of the monitor, is a standard power plug. On the right of the core is where you’ll find all other ports. The ports include 1 x 3.5mm audio jack, 1 x HDMI 2.0 port, 2 x DisplayPorts 1.4, 1 x USB hub, and 2 x USB Type-A 3.0 ports. However, it seems rather incomplete without a USB-C port but nevermind.

Once you have connected the cables, you will find a rectangular shaped cut out near the top in the middle. Route all your cable through there and hide them with the cover that snaps in. This helps make the overall look more cleaner.

Dimensions and Weight:

The monitor comes in a massive 49.8 (W) x 14.41 (H) x 18.94 (D) inches standard cardboard package with Polystyrene protection around it. The package itself weighs around 50 lbs (22.6 kg). Inside the box you will find – Samsung Odyssey G9 gaming monitor, 1.5 m long power cable, HDMI cable, Display-Port cable, and a USB cable.

The monitor itself without stand stretches 45.18 in Width, 14.31 in Height, and 11.46 in depth and weighs 31.1 lbs (14.1 kg). If you consider attaching the stand to the base which is the case normally, then the new dimensions are 45.18 (W) x 21.15 (H) x 16.39 (D) and 36.8 lbs (16.7 kg) of weight.

If the monitor’s steep price is not your concern then this is the monitor to go for without a doubt. Its 49-inch superwide screen, fast 240Hz refresh rates, 1ms response time,  great performance, 1000R curvature, and its aesthetics are outstanding features that make it stand out from the rest of the monitors. Samsung Odyssey G9 sets a new bar for truly immersive gaming.
